Mr Harley, a former school teacher, believes that traditional games like cards assist children's development in many ways; they:
- help children to learn to interpret written instructions.
- assist in the development of number concepts; eg. ordinal number, as in arranging sequences; and absolute number as in scoring.
- help with arithmetic skills.
- bring a sense of achievement as the child learns to master new games.
